Some autistic children develop speech later, while others may remain nonverbal and use alternative communication methods.

Ways to Support Communication:

  • Speech Therapy – Helps with language development.
  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) – Picture boards, sign language, or speech-generating devices can help children express themselves.
  • Encouraging Gestures & Sounds – Responding positively when your child makes sounds can encourage more communication attempts.

What to do: Even if your child does not speak, they can still learn to communicate in different ways. Work with a speech therapist to explore options.
